Summary form only given.Study on damage mechanisms is essential for the applications of KTiOPO/sub 4/ (KTP) crystals in cw high-power second-harmonic generation. Here, we report two types of optical damage induced by a cw argon laser. In addition, we have also demonstrated photorefractive two-wave mixing (TWM) in the KTP crystals. We have proposed different mechanisms to explain the laser damage in the KTP crystals.
