Abstract :
It is pointed out that there are some changes in the engineering profession that indicate a need to reexamine both the approach to continuing education and the urgency with which it is regarded. One of these changes is no surprise-the pace or rate of change is accelerating. The other is less obvious-engineering education is becoming more fundamental, and the teaching of application and even advanced engineering science is being reduced. It is noted that both of these changes have implications for undergraduate engineering education. Universities must find a way to participate in the post-degree education enterprise. They must find ways to teach students the techniques of continuing education so that they are prepared for the life-long task of knowledge-base renewal
