Abstract :
This paper presents a novel conceptual design of a gyrotron-cascaded prebunching-excited amplifier (gyro-CPA). A gyro-CPA consists of three essential techniques, including ECM-cascaded prebunching stage, ultra-overmoded drifting stage, and double modes-combined operation. A gyro-CPA is capable of generating high output power comparable to a gyroklystron and broad bandwidth comparable to a gyro-TWT. Numerical calculation is carried out based on a set of W-band design parameters.
