Abstract :
In this research work, a novel flywheel system design that can be potentially used as a momentum exchange device is proposed with active magnetic bearings in axial direction and permanent magnet bearings in radial directions. Electromagnets of the active axial bearings are independently controlled to compensate the forces of the radial passive bearing due to angular movements of the flywheel. In this study, a Lyapunov based adaptive control design is proposed and some simulation results are presented.
