Abstract :
The operation of a long transmission line is dependent on the overall performance of the power line carrier (PLC) communications systems. Some uses of the PLC include teleprotection and network data transmission between the converter stations of the HVDC transmission system. However, high levels of noise are experienced in the PLC during the operation of the HVDC system. This paper investigates the phenomena that leads to the high levels of noise in the PLC systems of long HVDC lines and also describes the methodology used in investigating this phenomena.
