Abstract :
Road safety is a key problem in today´s society. A novel application for the regulation of vehicle speed, trajectory, stopping and parking using chipless RFID tags installed into/on the road is proposed. The RFID reader with antennas installed under the vehicle scans the on-road tags and acquires essential regulatory data such as addresses, speed limits, parking permits. The chipless RFID system operates in the UWB spectrum (3.1-7 GHz) and hence enables high bit rate communication between the reader and tags which are without an IC and battery. The fully printable and passive chipless tags are resilient to harsh road and traffic environments and climatic changes. The potentials advantages of this application are greater road safety, advanced traffic regulation and navigation at low cost.
