Abstract
High data rate transmissions in recent broadband wireless technologies such as WiMAX have caused them to be more vulnerable to security threats. Moreover, due to new application scopes, the security requirements of WiMAX networks have been escalated in this technology, transmission of high volume of Ranging Request (RNG-REQ) messages toward the base station (BS) can lead to exposure to Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. In this paper, we present an analytical model for such attacks in Mobile WiMAX using so-called H parameter which has been used for traffic analysis in campus networks and Internet. A model for the traffic generated by this vulnerability is presented to detect DDoS attacks.
