Abstract :
The design and performance of an SC duplex fibre optic transceiver with clock and data recovery is described. The results demonstrate that the transceiver exceeds the requirements of the ITU-T G957 and G958 documents for SONET systems under the `intra-office´ specification, for link lengths of up to two kilometres. The transceiver was designed to operate at 2.488 Gbit/s (STM-16) but we have demonstrated operation over a wide range of bit rates from 500 Mbit/s to 3.0 Gbit/s. The part also meets the IEC and CDRH regulatory limits for laser eye safety
