Abstract :
This paper examines recent progress in magnetic recording and draws upon a variety of sources in presenting the outlook for the next ten years. The discussion is confined to conventional longitudinal and perpendicular magnetic recording where we assume a featureless medium and no thermal assist (i.e. patterned media and ´HAMR´ are excluded).
