Abstract
The effective implementation of lean production requires adaptive organizational change . The paper reviews different conceptual definitions and measurement instruments of lean production, extends Leavitt´s organizational change model, and compares mass production and lean production in five aspects, including organizational structure, task, people, technology, relationship between organizations. Finally the paper presents a more holistic definition and practice components of lean production based on the extended Leavitt´s organizational change model.
