Abstract
A micro bearing is the key component of a miniature spindle motor. This bearing dominates the performance indexes: lifetime, vibrations, noises and anti-shock response of a spindle that is applied in a miniature optical data storage device, such as small-form-factor optical (SFFO) drive. Generally, micro ball bearing motors are widely utilized in a miniature optical data storage device. However, it has some disadvantages. Due to the defects of precision of a ball, vibration and noise are created. The object of this paper is to design the compact micro magnetic bearing to replace the conventional micro ball bearing.
