Abstract :
In this paper, we present an effective approach for live media streaming based on BitTorrent mechanism. In the approach, several modifications have been incorporated into BitTorrent to support on-time content delivery. First, pieces are selected based on their scheduler play back deadline. Second, source behaves in a push-based way instead of pull-based way. Finally, each peer periodically examines its active neighbors to improve the bandwidth utilization. Our simulations indicate that our proposals improve the bandwidth utilization and accommodate high scalability and resilience, and a good streaming quality can be achieved.
