Abstract :
A novel 8-kb/s low-delay code-excited linear prediction (CELP) coder is proposed. The main features of this coder are the backward-adaptive LPC predictor and excitation gain, and the three-tap pitch predictor with interframe predictively coded pitch period and closed-loop vector quantized predictor taps. The authors have found a new way of CELP speech coding at or below 8 kb/s which, when compared with conventional CELP at a comparable bit rate, achieves about the same speech quality with about the same complexity but a much lower coding delay
