Abstract
It has been using plow type buriers to bury submarine cables laid on continental shelves for avoiding damages from fishing gears and ship\´s anchors. A plow type burier, however, is not suitable for burying repaired cables left on bottom surface in cable burying section. For purposes of burying such portion of cables, we have developed the remotely controlled jetting burier, named "MARCAS-200 CRAWLER", which moves with the hydraulic driving crawlers and is equipped with water jet nozzles at the tip of the manipulator. The burier is capable of operating up to 200 meters deep and the trenching depth is 2 meters in maximum depending on the sea bottom conditions. The burier traces the cable by detecting a low frequency signal applied on the cable. In this paper, we describe the outline of features and performance of the burier.
