Abstract :
We introduce a new networking approach (INTELiCON) that significantly improves the performance, reliability and resiliency of network data delivery for home media and other applications. Consumers want access to their digital media not only on their laptop and desktop computers, but will also want to stream real-time such content directly to their devices (e.g. high-definition (HD) televisions) throughout the house. Current networking approaches may not be able to deliver the expected end-user media experience due to a host of impairments that can significantly degrade real-time network performance. This is particularly true of wireless technologies that must contend with rapid fluctuations in available bandwidth and packet latency resulting from interference, congestion and channel errors. The intelligent connectivity (INTELiCON) framework leverages multiple network links simultaneously in an intelligent, dynamic, coordinated and transparent fashion to more effectively utilize network resources and deliver more satisfactory user experience even in the presence of extreme interference and packet errors.
