Abstract :
This paper describe the distribution network models which exist within the geographic information system (GIS), and some of the network management facilities, which have been implemented in Midlands Electricity company (UK). These have provided the utility with the ability to present all relevant information about the distribution network in an accurate, standardised, up to date, linked and easily usable form to users at all locations within the company. The scope of the project described below includes facilities for long term and short term planning of the power networks at all voltage levels, utilising a GIS to provide the backbone data bus. This integrates and supplements the company´s other information sources
