Abstract
This paper presents a novel initial cell search algorithm for 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless networks. An innovative processing algorithm for the primary synchronization signal (PSS) is here provided. The signal processing procedure as well the PSS symbol structure we propose can be applied to every LTE transmission standard, since we require modifications only at the receiver side. Performance analysis is carried out in comparison with the conventional approach, based on the power detector test. The numerical results, obtained from wide simulation trials under operating settings, have evidenced that the devised method outperforms the conventional approach for all the timing offsets.
