Abstract :
A novel approach is proposed to improve motion estimation, in which low-pass filtered images are used in a motion estimation scheme. When a correct low-pass filter is used in a motion estimation and compensation scheme, the transmitted data and the total time to get the best matches are greatly reduced while the reconstructed image sequences have almost the same quality as those using original motion estimation algorithms. This method can be exploited in any motion estimation scheme to further reduce bit-rates and the time for motion estimation
