Abstract :
This paper discusses the characteristics of networks required to implement an infrastructure supporting multimedia applications and services. An example network is described using ATM as a backbone and for workstation connections; 802.3 (10BASE-T) and 802.9a (isochronous Ethernet) are used for PC and legacy LAN connections. A description of the issues when mapping isochronous data from IEEE 802.9a sub nets onto an ATM backbone network is provided
