Abstract :
This paper examines the fundamental design trade-offs which apply to all linear filtering problems. These trade-offs express the inescapable sensitivity of all linear filters to disturbances of various sources. The constraints allow one to determine, a priori, whether or not a desired level of filter performance is attainable and how different arrangements of the measurement system are related to achievable performance
