Abstract
In cognitive radio networks, the CR users have to detect the spectrum channels periodically to make sure that the primary users are absent during their data transmission in order to avoid the collisions to the primary users. Based on the energy detection, the fixed duration of sensing frame can determine the performances of the detection. But, the duration of data transmission frame has an effect on spectrum utilization and collisions to the primary users. Also, different traffic models of CR users will affect the time of data transmission in each frame. In order to fully utilize the spectrum, a new scheme to find the optimal duration of data transmission frame is proposed to maximize the spectrum utilization and guarantee the protection to the primary user. Computer simulation shows that there´s a tradeoff between utilization and collision when a CR user´s traffic model is fixed.
