Abstract :
Efficient use of network resources while satisfying the QoS (quality of service) required by the multimedia traffics represents one of the major issues in modern network engineering problems. This paper, presents a statistical approach for traffic modeling and queuing performance analysis based on real traffic measurements. The approach can be seen as an combination and application of results issued from the areas of queuing theory and signal processing: collect of statistic from real traffics, effect of traffic high-order statistics on queue response and computational methods for queuing analysis [San-Qi Li and Chia-lin Hwang, Dec 1993], [Melamed, B and Tsiolis, A.K., 1996], [Sheng, H.D. and Li, S.Q., 1993], [San-qi Li and Chia-lin Hwang, Feb 1997], [Jingdog Ye and San-qi Li, Feb. 1994]. A numerical study applied to two traffic traces would be presented to show the validity of the approach.
