Abstract
Because of the high burst error rate in space optical communication, this paper presents an adaptive error correction mechanism based on the characteristics of the atmosphere and space channel. This mechanism can not only correct long-block burst error, but also have three salient features - rate adaption, redundancy adaption, flexible control of the code pattern and algorithm. A system design is made in detail and an example based on the mechanism and the system model is given. There is also a general analysis on the performance of the adaptive error correction system.
