Abstract
This study proposes a negotiation-based approach to combine the notion of adaptivity and adaptability for adaptive learning system. The system suggests adaptation and the student also submits his/her preference of adaptation. While the student preference violates the system suggestion, the student needs to negotiate with the system to reach an agreement of adaptation. To delineate the proposed framework, an undergraduate Java programming course is provided to illustrate how the negotiation-based adaptive learning system can support the generation of personalized adaptive learning sequences.
