Abstract :
This work aims to address maternal mortality problem by integrating maternal and fetal health monitoring, telemetry, and current technologies. An android tablet and a microcontroller act as processing units of four interfaced biomedical sensors significant for monitoring labor. A developed android application installed to the tablet fetches patient data from an online electronic medical record system and controls all processes of the system. Two lying-in clinics were visited during the development phase to receive feedback and to confirm the usability of the system. Users deemed the system as a useful device for monitoring the progress of labor and establishing communication with experts.
