Abstract
Thanks to evolution of permanent magnet, synchronous motors are more and more efficient. Based on an extensive bibliographical research new structures appearing in scientific literature have been studied. Except transverse flux permanent magnet machine, novel structures are principally double air-gaps permanent magnet machines. Their main advantages consist in an increase of torque or power and a higher efficiency. In this paper, a comparison between a dual air-gaps axial flux permanent magnet machine and a dual air-gaps radial flux permanent magnet machine is achieved through specifically developed analytics models, based on electromagnetic torque calculation. Then, further investigations on the motor´s response to specific demands are conducted thanks to an optimization process. A three-dimensional finite-element model is implemented in the last paragraph only for the axial flux permanent magnet machine.
