Abstract :
This paper describes the human science research field and its reliance on the capability of studying ancient manuscripts. The importance of having a coordinated image and text view is shown. Uses for computer-based tools for this area are discussed and a hypermedia model is developed for representing the ancient manuscripts and the process of human science research on these manuscripts. A prototypical information system based on this model was designed and tested. The paper gives lessons learned in the research project as well as future directions for this research area
