Abstract
This paper identifies first of all who the customer is and what his or her needs are, and then considers if these needs are being addressed. This paper does not advocate any particular technology but considers many aspects of wider interest, such as the issues of how bus travel can be made attractive to the customer by using new technology with imaginative packaging. Examples are given of where a quality bus approach using high technology systems have achieved real and measurable improvements for the bus operators and the customers. The technology discussed includes automatic vehicle location, real time information systems, and electronic ticketing machines
