  • Abstract
    A series of environmental problems caused by human depredation, such as air pollution, water pollution, energy depletion and species extinction, have been gradually emerged since 1980. To focus global attention on the risk of environmental protection, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) proposed the slogan of sustainable development. After discussing sustainable environment and green building in the last few decades, the concept of roof greening has been broadly accepted and valued. Since then, a large amount of research related to roof greening has been published, including techniques, benefits, materials, etc. However, a holistic discussion about the application guidelines of roof greening has not been developed. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to provide a comprehensive way of thinking about roof greening. By introducing the development process for roof greening, and reviewing and integrating related articles, this paper proposes different greening techniques, their benefits, guidelines, and future research suggestions for people who are interesting in doing practical roof greening projects.
