  • Abstract
    A prototype SDH-based 10 Gbit/s optical transmission system composed of linear optical amplifier repeaters, regenerator repeaters and line terminals is realized. In order to supervise repeaters remotely, a new OA&M (operation administration and maintenance) system is designed. A WDM transmission line is used as a supervisory channel to support message-oriented data communication using a new protocol. Terminals can multiplex intra-office interfaces of STM-O, STM-1, STM-4, and STM-16 into the inter-office interface of 10 Gbit/s (STM-64) which is designed to convey four types of virtual container, VC-3, VC-4, VC-4-4c, and VC-4-16c
