Abstract
The importance of computer-aided design (CAD) tools, specifically logic simulation systems, and the need for a quick evaluation scheme enabling prospective buyers to choose intelligently from numerous available systems is established. An evaluation scheme consisting of the examination of both qualitative and quantitative system attributes is presented. Benchmarking is introduced as an appropriate evaluation tool in this scheme. Specifications and design strategies for these benchmarks are discussed, and a set of several important tests is listed. Three of these tests are presented in detail along with results obtained from their application to several available systems
