Abstract
An approach for the analysis and design of communications network architectures is presented. Rather than dealing with detailed characteristics of alternative designs, aggregate measures some critical design parameters are treated. Several assumptions create an idealized representation of the geography in which the network is located, the traffic requirements to be placed on the network. The assumptions lead to algebraic expressions forming the basis of an optimization algorithm. Aggregate measures of the designs so created compare closely with similar measures operated by more conventional techniques
