Abstract
In Japan, FTTH market is growing very rapidly. The number of FTTH users surpassed 5.4 million in March 2006. This presentation updates FTTH market in Japan. It will touch on FTTH services that NTT currently offers and typical applications on FTTH. It also describes driving force behind FTTH growth. NTT has been introducing EPON on a large scale to offer IP service such as high-speed Internet and high-quality IP telephone. In April 2006, NTT started to provide broadcast service by RF format in conjunction with satellite television provider by using Video-PON overlay. This presentation gives configuration of commercial FTTH systems. It also gives lessons learned from actual FTTH deployment and latest technologies used in massive FTTH deployment, highlighting easy construction technologies. NTT set the target of moving 30 million customers to FTTH by 2010. Technologies required for entering full-scale FTTH era is also discussed.
