Abstract :
The first educational CD-ROM generated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory for the Shuttle Imaging Radar-C (SIR-C) project was a great success, with over 5000 copies distributed to educators across the United States. SIRCED01 was a pre-launch look at the sites to be covered by the SIR-C mission from several different perspectives, using radar images, shuttle hand-held photographs taken by the astronauts, digitized location and topographic maps and ground photos. The second SIR-CED CD-ROM contains radar images, hand-held photographs and scientific results from the SIR-C missions, which flew on the Space Shuttle Endeavour in April and October of 1994. The CD includes short, digitized movies describing the missions and their science highlights. The CD-ROM includes an updated Teacher´s Guide and presentation materials to be used in the classroom. Students can learn about imaging radar and observing the Earth´s changing environment using this package, then go on to complete a project of their own, involving construction of a scientific hypothesis, data analysis and reporting of results. Incorporated into the CD-ROM is a `road map´, which uses a World Wide Web browse program to give an introduction to the CD and shows the user where to find materials on it
