Abstract
The scanning confocal microscope was designed to achieve depth resolution and the accompanying contrast improvement in the optical regime. Depth discrimination mechanisms from the confocal microscope have been modeled for microwave wavelengths and applied computationally to the reconstruction of holographic synthetic aperture radar (HSAR) data. Results are presented of 3D reconstruction of 2D data sets, demonstrating the desired depth resolution and improved contrast. Investigation of adaptation of the confocal technique to data sets of more than 2 dimensions, such as interferometric SAR or full 3D data sets, are also discussed.
