The International Experimental Satellite Communications Centre was established to handle satellite communication and television broadcasting problems. The paper discusses various technical facilities used at the Centre. They include earth stations of different types and services, terrestrial test links, radiometers and a computer centre. The paper considers research results in the following areas: developing higher frequency ranges (above 10 GHz) and applications of digital TV and data transfer techniques and installations. It also outlines a few projects based on a commercial use of satellite communication and broadcasting systems at 14/11 GHz
