Abstract
With the adoption of the policy of reform and opening-up to the outside world in China, telecommunications have gained sustained and rapid development both in the network capacity and in the technology and service quality. This paper gives the major statistics of telecommunications development during the period 1980-1999, as well as the planned value in 2000. It also describes the major research achievements in telecommunications in recent years
