Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the soft decision Viterbi decoding with/without Channel State Information (CSI) of punctured convolutional codes in Rayleigh fading channels. The formulations for computing the soft decision metrics with or without CSI are presented. Also the BER performance has been calculated for a wide range of codes with different constraint length and code rate. In addition, the effects of quantizer thresholds on performance are discussed
