Research on model of post-disaster reconstruction in small towns of Wenchuan, China—A Case of Shuimo Town in Wenchuan County

At 14:28 on May 12, 2008, an earthquake, measured 8.0 on the Richter scale, struck Wenchuan County in Longmen mountain of Sichuan province. After three years of post-disaster reconstruction in the disaster area, the economy, ecology, environment has been fully restored. Shuimo town in Wenchuan County, the reconstruction model was awarded as “Global Best Example Post-disaster Reconstruction”. From Studying and discussion on the reconstruction model of Shuimo town in Wenchuan County, we found that the town used of regional advantages, improved infrastructure, to explored tourism resources, changed the economic growth mode, and focused protection of historical and cultural. So that development of economic, environment and society was rapid in Shuimo town. It showed that “hematopoietic type” of post-disaster reconstruction models, and provided a case for the development of small towns in China.
