  • Abstract
We consider a queueing system being fed by several distinct Poisson streams determining job classes. The main characteristic of the model consists in the fact, that only one job per stream is admitted at a time into a central queue-server facility. The central queue-server facility is assumed to consist of an FCFS queue with a single server, providing class-independent deterministic or exponential service. Models of this kind play an important role in the performance analysis of distributed systems as, for instance, the distributed queue dual bus (DQDB) network. We present an approximate analysis-termed the external queue analysis method (EQA)-by partly applying methods which have been developed for queueing networks with restricted capacities. The accuracy has been impressively validated by simulation runs
