  • Abstract
A simple, high-performance ATM switch architecture for the public telecommunication services has been proposed. The switch has a strictly internal nonblocking architecture which provides virtually no cell loss using the internal speedup. To reduce the size of the BGT (Broadcasting and Group Translation) tables, the authors have proposed the rounding copy network which consists of cascaded copy modules to provide outgoing copied cells translated in consecutive BGTs for an extendible multi-stage switching network. In addition, they describe a method of distributing input traffic into switch modules uniformly without additional hardware in front of the switch
