  • Abstract
Chinese learners of English always suffer from mastering real, normal and fluent English for lack of a live language environment. To facilitate effective and efficient English learning, we propose an ensemble approach that combines the findings from information technology, linguistics and second language acquisition in order to construct a better English learning environment for Chinese students. Our projects include compilation of an advanced learner´s English-Chinese dictionary, development of an innovative pedagogical grammar based on universal construction and transformation grammar and editing of a new series of school textbooks inspired by language acquisition research. Parallel and monolingual corpora are utilized to search for the proper equivalent words between two languages linguistically; and dynamic inter-language corpora are used to detect the difficulty scale in learning vocabulary and grammar patterns. The information technology, such as machine learning, human-machine interface and database management, is employed in the whole construction of the better learning environment.
