Abstract
Proposes a feedback mechanism for intramedia synchronization in the framework of a multimedia retrieval service over a broadband integrated network. The mechanism is based on a statistical approach which uses correlation properties of the interarrival times of the data streams so as to compute retrieval times which tone down the interarrival time jitter. In order to limit the feedback traffic a proper figure of merit of the synchronization degree is introduced which alloys to obtain a suitable trade-off between traffic overhead and synchronization quality. Moreover, an architectural framework in which users´ QoS delay requirements and the synchronization mechanism proposed fit together is pointed out. This allows to illustrate how the synchronization mechanism parameters can be determined in order to meet the user requirements
