Abstract
NEC´s NEAX 61E switch is evolving toward the intelligent network with the addition of an application services processor (ASP). The ASP provides a services software platform which can be integrated into the NEAX 61E or deployed on a stand-alone basis. The concept of a connection control model (CCM) is developed to provide an interface between the basic switch software and ASP. The CCM presents a logical representation of a call´s status to the ASP. This approach means that physical implementation within the NEAX 61E are invisible to the ASP, greatly simplifying the task of service creation
