Abstract
This paper considers the reconstruction of images from block loss in block transform codecs by pixel interleaving. Pixel interleaving works on splitting adjacent pixels of the original image before encoding so that block loss only affects individual pixels. The lost pixels at the decoder can be recovered from its undamaged neighbor pixels. Four kinds of pixel interleaving schemes are proposed in this paper. Simulation shows that pixel interleaving is effective in recovering the lost image blocks, especially at high loss rate
