Abstract :
Clipping induced distortion is a fundamental limit for subcarrier multiplexed lightwave video transmission systems. The distortion limits imposed by clipping effects in both directly and externally modulated systems are investigated by simulations and experiments. It appears that in externally modulated systems the composite triple beat (CTB) components are 6 dB higher than in directly modulated systems. The composite second order (CSO) components however, are virtually absent. From the simulations, theoretical limits for the system performance are derived for the German BK600 frequency plan (50 channels) and the USA 80 channels NTSC allocation scheme
