  • Abstract
A class of generalized concatenated block coding schemes with noncoherent detection for the uplink of mobile code division multiple access (CDMA) communications is considered. We use the first-order Reed-Muller (RM) code as inner code and short low rate RM codes as outer codes. In particular, we investigate a GC code with the same rate as that of the concatenated convolutional/orthogonal coding scheme proposed by Qualcomm CDMA. Simulation results show that for low signal-to-noise ratios which are of interest in mobile communication links, this coding scheme yields a lower bit error rate with a considerably smaller decoding complexity
