Abstract :
This paper describes the use of an FPGA-based rapid prototyping framework to develop a PC-AT card with a DSP chip on board. This permits the reconstruction of computed tomography images using the filtered backprojection algorithm. The framework enables the rapid construction of the card with the DSP chip and its control logic and memory. DSP operation is controlled by the PC, with its program downloaded from hard disc. The coprocessor card provides a speed-up of five times compared to execution on the PC alone
