Abstract
An adaptive control scheme is developed for plants with an unknown dead-zone at the input of a known but possibly non-minimum phase linear dynamics. The proposed controller structure consists of an adaptive dead-zone inverse to cancel the effect of the unknown dead-zone and a fixed linear feedback to place the closed-loop poles. Extensive simulation results show that the adaptive dead-zone inverse controller leads to significant system performance improvements
