Abstract
Wireless power transfer using magnetic induction principle (WPT) technology is a promising technology to be implemented for mobile application- from recharging mobile devices to transmit transfer power for implantable cardiac defibrillators. However, researchers are still trying what factors could affect the efficiency of the technology. We present how electroplating layer addition of a ferromagnetic material on the receiver coil could affect the efficiency of the technology. The conducted experiment shows that nickel electroplating layer addition (which is expected to improve the efficiency of the technology) actually decreasing the efficiency of the technology. The efficiency of the system before nickel electroplating layer added on the receiver coil was 44.18%. Whereas, after the addition of the layer the efficiency becomes 33.17%, while the nickel layer thickened several times the efficiency doesn´t change significantly.
